Shiv Sena praises Dr. Singh on the Indo-US Nuke deal
Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray
While BJP and Communists came together to rile against the Indo-US nuclear deal, now Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has come out with utmost praise for Dr. Manmohan Singh on the deal.
He described the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal as "historic" and in "national interest" and did not believe the BJP rhetoric that UPA government has compromised the country's sovereignty.
"I don't think there is any truth in this political criticism. The voluntary moratorium on not conducting further nuclear tests was imposed by our government," Thackeray said in an editorial in his party mouthpiece Saamna.
It is quite obvious that the two allies are not on the same page on this one.
The old Shiv Sena supremo believes that this deal will give a lot of advantages for India as it will provide energy security, trade advantages and also help India procure reactors and nuclear technology.
He did however differentiate between the Congress party and Dr. Manmohan Singh.
"He has already clarified issues related to 123 agreement and the Hyde Act. Even though the Congress can't be trusted, the same yardstick cannot be applied to the Prime Minister," he added.
